<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>118th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 2553</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20230726">July 26, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S418">Mr. Fetterman</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S307">Mr. Brown</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S331">Mrs. Gillibrand</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S309">Mr. Casey</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S422">Mr. Welch</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S247">Mr. Wyden</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S413">Mr. Padilla</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S306">Mr. Menendez</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S370">Mr. Booker</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S394">Ms. Smith</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S366">Ms. Warren</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S313">Mr. Sanders</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S311">Ms. Klobuchar</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S341">Mr. Blumenthal</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSAF00">Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 to ensure that striking workers and their households do not become ineligible for benefits under the supplemental nutrition assistance program, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Food Secure Strikers Act of 2023</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idf384964843db4da295079e4c979fe0fa"><enum>2.</enum><header>Eligibility of striking workers</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 6(d) of the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/7/2015">7 U.S.C. 2015(d)</external-xref>) is amended— </text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id6769a224a6df46b6a395047b8878fbc6"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (1)(D)—</text><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id070c14a0b9fd47f2bb1b930e8d7d73ca"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by striking clause (iv); and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id5b06fb64f6ca457d95ae63da67be63b5"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by redesignating clauses (v) and (vi) as clauses (iv) and (v), respectively; and</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id9529c72e23b3402a93098a0cc95aea43"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in paragraph (3)—</text><subparagraph id="id00f39da890dd44a3850e9c38f15761b3"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by striking <quote>participate in the supplemental nutrition assistance program at any time that</quote> and inserting <quote>be ineligible to participate in the supplemental nutrition assistance program as a result of</quote>; </text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id23812ab226b54a968240c2ab23ef1dc7"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by striking <quote>is on strike</quote> and inserting <quote>being on strike</quote>; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id296bd368a58d463ab00bcb853ad4d446"><enum>(C)</enum><text>by striking <quote>: <italic>Provided, </italic>That</quote> and all that follows through the period at the end and inserting a period.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
