which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSAS00">Committee on Armed Services</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend title 10, United States Code, to authorize the Secretary of Defense or the Secretary of a military department to enter into cooperative agreements to manage certain recreational resources in California.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="id180720c90575469e9b31d7a2038bf9d4" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Military Recreational Land Act of 2023 </short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="id7c630476372247019ae79092b0aea9ea"><enum>2.</enum><header>Authority for management of certain recreational resources in California through cooperative agreements</header><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="iddb11931535cc4f8091c54247301e6ffa"><enum>(a)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 2684 of title 10, United States Code, is amended—</text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id653c379d2c22499da05f87863cc29c64"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in the section header, by inserting <quote><header-in-text style="USC" level="section">and recreational</header-in-text></quote> after <quote><header-in-text style="USC" level="section">cultural</header-in-text></quote>;</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ida3c19c90663446439553b5f8f6a4c2c1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subsection (a)—</text><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id573a1a31e61d4723a42f124a46be31f5"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in the first sentence—</text><clause commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id2564ec4798db4bdfb7fc50f86a715d6f"><enum>(i)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by inserting <quote>or recreational resources</quote> after <quote>cultural resources</quote>; and</text></clause><clause commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id0697e6f52ba24ac3b15bfd5a14ee837a"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>by striking <quote>the cultural resources</quote> and inserting <quote>those resources</quote>; and</text></clause></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id2684f3ef815945d49599243f8cdf7436"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in the second sentence, by inserting <quote>, if any funds are required</quote> before the period at the end;</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idd7d654e81f9c4baaa7c41d08f534e6be"><enum>(3)</enum><text>in subsection (b)—</text><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id0db2d33ad34b4891bca9e12c4f0f381f"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in the subsection header, by striking <quote><header-in-text style="USC" level="subsection">cultural resources</header-in-text></quote>; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id7cb6a0bf86d544369715662ce9d08ce6"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by striking <quote>cultural</quote>; and</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ide6d6ec44ed124089984bda95a6e36192"><enum>(4)</enum><text>in subsection (d)—</text><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idc165c8d3419041529204081290b8b0ba"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by amending the subsection header to read as follows: <quote><header-in-text style="USC" level="subsection">Definitions</header-in-text>.—</quote>;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id55358826aa424a1ea626c97e852b18a3"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by redesignating paragraphs (1) through (5) as subparagraphs (A) through (E), respectively, and moving those subparagraphs, as so redesignated, two ems to the right;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idc954300cf3e94553b6ae70da62130d35"><enum>(C)</enum><text>by striking <quote>In this section, the term</quote> and inserting “In this section:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id043A6E7296C242249B14501B2407F4FC"><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id01582a4047f44360869eac78a3dbc394"><enum>(1)</enum><text>The term</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>; and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id8507082a2d4a4e6cadc58b5200ce4b16"><enum>(D)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following new paragraph:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id921A6E6C10E14D5CA156B06015B96B64"><paragraph id="id8f10ae57edf44c7bbdb920996acc2d5d"><enum>(2)</enum><text>The term <term>recreational resource</term> means a site that is included in the state seashore of California, as described in section 5001.6 of the Public Resources Code of California, or successor similar provision, and will be operated as a park unit in the California State Park system by the California Department of Parks and Recreation.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id752eca0a6334422fb417dab68cdb2ac5"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Clerical amendment</header><text>The table of sections at the beginning of chapter 159 of such title is amended by striking the item relating to section 2684 and inserting the following new item:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id3DBEA27EE8BF46A9BBF209B2AA6EEC5A"><toc><toc-entry level="section" idref="id7c630476372247019ae79092b0aea9ea">2684.
