<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>118th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 2306</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20230713">July 13, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S409">Mr. Luján</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S359">Mr. Heinrich</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSVA00">Committee on Veterans' Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend the Veterans Millennium Health Care and Benefits Act to repeal the authorization for the provision of flat grave markers at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, New Mexico, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>New Mexico Veteran Burial Dignity and Honor Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section section-type="subsequent-section" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id1a09a81ca832470f981ce162f9a8297e"><enum>2.</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Grave markers at Santa Fe National Cemetery, New Mexico</header><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id5d68d3b635784c0ba41bea871ebd37c8"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 612 of the Veterans Millennium Health Care and Benefits Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/38/2404">38 U.S.C. 2404</external-xref> note; <external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/106/117">Public Law 106–117</external-xref>) is repealed.</text></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="iddd4451eedc894aaf9212887998eaffa8"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Replacement of flat grave markers</header><text>Not later than January 1, 2028, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs shall replace each flat grave marker at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, New Mexico, with an upright grave marker.</text></subsection><subsection id="id5960b421cfa946cd98100fd9272bda52"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Future grave markers</header><text>Any grave marker provided at the Santa Fe National Cemetery after the date of the enactment of this Act shall be an upright grave marker. </text></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ida4b1f4df35be41909bccd4773286734c"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Authorization of appropriations</header><text>There is authorized to be appropriated to carry out subsection (b) $15,000,000 for the period of fiscal years 2024 through 2028. </text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
