<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>118th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 2117</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20230622">June 22, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S402">Ms. Rosen</sponsor> (for herself and <cosponsor name-id="S288">Ms. Murkowski</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSHR00">Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To allow participants in the National Health Service Corps to defer their obligated service in order to receive training in palliative care services.</official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section section-type="section-one" id="S1"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Provider Training in Palliative Care Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="id0EE6A0979ACF446F83CDF5765502BE73"><enum>2.</enum><header>Deferral of obligated services for training in palliative care</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 331 of the Public Health Service Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/254d">42 U.S.C. 254d</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="id23145730F7F24931BC40A5A2FD82B790"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by redesignating subsection (j) as subsection (k); and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id4E41394EC0164856A14D17E062E01B2F"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by inserting after subsection (i) the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id0A8E99E554EA4F94B91D71A972A39054"><subsection id="id8D0D77326E0E4F088BE2300704DBE03E"><enum>(j)</enum><text>In carrying out subpart III, the Secretary may issue deferrals of the period of obligated service to individuals who have entered into a contract for obligated service under the Scholarship Program or the Loan Repayment Program and who apply for such a deferral in order to receive training in palliative care. The Secretary may grant such a deferral to such an individual for a period of up to 1 year.</text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
