Short title

This Act may be cited as the No Federal Funding for CCP Spying and Persuasion In Education Settings (SPIES) Act of 2023.

Prohibition on funding for international institutions of higher education that host Confucius Institutes and removal of waiver authority

Section 1062 of the William M. (Mac) Thornberry National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021 (Public Law 116–283; 10 U.S.C. 2241 note) is amended—(1)in subsection (a)—(A)by striking Except as provided in subsection (b), none and inserting None; and(B)by inserting or international institution of higher education after institution of higher education;(2)by striking subsection (b); and(3)by redesignating subsections (c) and (d) as subsections (b) and (c), respectively.
