<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>118th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 1816</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20230606">June 6, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S418">Mr. Fetterman</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S309">Mr. Casey</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSAF00">Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend the Federal Crop Insurance Act to require research and development regarding a policy to insure the production of mushrooms.</official-title></form><legis-body style="OLC" display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause" id="H9FFC88ED79D04F43803FDBB2977C810C"><section id="iddb176ca4b3564b57bd263a0ee5987b80" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Protecting Mushroom Farmers Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section section-type="subsequent-section" id="H5CC4EB99F99B4E1C8BEE541AE87FE1ED"><enum>2.</enum><header>Research and development authority</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 522(c) of the Federal Crop Insurance Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/7/1522">7 U.S.C. 1522(c)</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H7621F5057DED4F2CABFA74B1D0B57AAF"><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H5B48765C1A4C4ADAB4F75E16445C6C9E"><enum>(20)</enum><header>Mushrooms</header><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H2F4AF6CA7C494263B3B1ADC41AAE54F4"><enum>(A)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Corporation shall carry out research and development, or offer to enter into 1 or more contracts with 1 or more qualified persons to carry out research and development, regarding a policy to insure the production of mushrooms or revenue derived from the production of mushrooms.</text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H3C13E80395C647768B1E77C38CCFE748"><enum>(B)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Report</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Not later than 1 year after the date of enactment of this paragraph, the Corporation shall submit to the Committee on Agriculture of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry of the Senate a report that describes—</text><clause commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H1ABDE07290C2418C9BDAFE05FAE42570"><enum>(i)</enum><text>the results of the research and development carried out under subparagraph (A); and</text></clause><clause commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H49D78A0530A84965BD7E5A32ECE72469"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>any recommendations with respect to those results.</text></clause></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
