<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>118th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 12</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20230123" legis-day="20230103">January 23 (legislative day, January 3), 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S355">Mr. Cruz</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S375">Mr. Daines</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S404">Mr. Scott of Florida</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S421">Mr. Vance</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S389">Mr. Kennedy</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S399">Mr. Hawley</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSGA00">Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To prohibit the government of the District of Columbia from using Federal funds to allow individuals who are not citizens of the United States to vote in any election, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section section-type="section-one" id="id5FA99DFA2DCA4252BCA5A053EFEEBE8B"><enum>1.</enum><header>Prohibition on Federal funds</header><subsection id="idB84917E307CE43DC9DA58636D707A6D8"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Notwithstanding any other provision of law, no Federal funds made available to the District of Columbia may be used to allow individuals who are not citizens of the United States to vote in any election.</text></subsection><subsection id="id4337331FBC134935A72812A6BCAAB8B2"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Certification</header><text>Upon application for, approval for, or receipt of any Federal funds, the government of the District of Columbia shall certify that the government does not permit individuals who are not citizens of the United States to vote in any election.</text></subsection><subsection id="idDFFDB62392964CFC92F4BBFF43989A00"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Application</header><text>The requirements under this section shall apply with respect to any Federal funds applied for, approved for, received by, or made available to the District of Columbia on or after the date on which this bill is introduced in the Senate.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
