Whereas, on December 3, 1940, the Army broke ground near Rolla, Missouri;Whereas the post was named for Major General Leonard Wood, who was not only a military hero awarded the Medal of Honor, but also a surgeon;Whereas, in March of 1941, the first elements of an Engineer Replacement Training Center arrived at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri;Whereas, during World War II, more than 300,000 soldiers passed through Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, on the way to perform military service;Whereas, currently, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, trains 80,000 members of the Armed Forces and civilians each year; andWhereas Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, is a prestigious military installation that trains nearly every branch of the Armed Forces: Now, therefore, be it
