<whereas><text>Whereas the United Nations designated September 21 <quote>International Day of Peace</quote>—otherwise known as Peace Day;</text></whereas> <whereas><text>Whereas the United Nations General Assembly declared Peace Day as a day devoted to <quote>commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples</quote>;</text></whereas> 
<whereas><text>Whereas all United Nations member states, organizations, regional and nongovernmental organizations, and individuals are encouraged to celebrate and recognize global peace efforts on Peace Day;</text></whereas> <whereas><text>Whereas Peace Day represents shared hopes of an end to conflict in all forms;</text></whereas> 
<whereas><text>Whereas the United Nations calls for a 24-hour global cease fire on Peace Day;</text></whereas> <whereas><text>Whereas this year’s Peace Day theme is <quote>Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the #Global Goals</quote>;</text></whereas> 
<whereas><text>Whereas 2018 marked the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a milestone development in contemporary human history promoting peace and well-being worldwide;</text></whereas> <whereas><text>Whereas violent conflicts could cost upwards of $14.4 trillion per year globally;</text></whereas> 
<whereas><text>Whereas global peace promotion efforts improve the lives of Americans and all peoples;</text></whereas> <whereas><text>Whereas the United States has a long history of promoting peace and human rights at home and abroad; and</text></whereas> 
<whereas><text>Whereas September would be an appropriate month to designate as Peace Month: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body style="traditional" id="H0739E203058645B9B7B0B32B2C510AC2"> <section display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" id="H01CC8D4771D849478E1449D739AE789E"><text>That the House of Representatives—</text> 
<paragraph id="H8382207F0AC8415889DE8326D12877F2"><enum>(1)</enum><text>supports the designation of <quote>Peace Month</quote>; and</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="H4716525A9BA545BD90D5CC5C9072D499"><enum>(2)</enum><text>calls on Congress to promote peace, both at home and abroad.</text></paragraph></section>
