 Ms. Barragan (for herself, Mr. Espaillat, Mr. Garcia of Illinois, and 
 Mr. Vargas) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to 
              the Committee on Education and the Workforce

                               RESOLUTION


 
    Commemorating the lifetime legacy of Alejandro ``El Potrillo'' 
 Fernandez for his continued contributions to Mexican music and Latin 
                        culture internationally.

Whereas, on April 24, 1971, Alejandro ``El Potrillo'' Fernandez was born to 
        musical icons Vicente Fernandez and Maria Del Refugio Abarca in Mexico 
        City, Mexico;
Whereas Alejandro Fernandez was a naturally gifted musician and at a young age 
        starting cultivating his talent as early as 3 years old performing in 
        front of thousands;
Whereas Alejandro Fernandez began performing alongside his father and increased 
        his popularity with his powerful voice and versatile singing style;
Whereas when Alejandro Fernandez released his first self titled album in 1992 he 
        sparked one of Latin music's most prolific careers of all time;
Whereas Alejandro Fernandez transcended countries, performing across Mexico and 
        the United States;
Whereas Alejandro Fernandez would go on to create 16 studio albums, and 7 live 
        albums over the course of his over 20 year career, and counting;
Whereas Alejandro Fernandez's songs would often top the charts internationally 
        and within the United States, with songs frequently topping the 
        Billboard Hot Latin Tracks for consecutive weeks at a time;
Whereas Alejandro Fernandez became the first Latin singer ever to hold first 
        place in the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks with 3 hits: ``Si tu supieras'', 
        ``En El Jardin'', and ``No Se Olividar'';
Whereas Alejandro Fernandez rose to international stardom thanks to both his 
        natural born talent and his ability to transcend musical genres, and his 
        discography includes traditional Mexican folk (ranchera, mariachi, and 
        charro) and pop/Latin pop;
Whereas Alejandro Fernandez has been honored with numerous Latin Grammy Awards, 
        Billboard Latin Music Awards, and Premio Lo Nuestro Awards throughout 
        his lustrous career;
Whereas Alejandro Fernandez's impact on the world goes well beyond his music, 
        and as a humanitarian, Alejandro Fernandez has donated time, resources 
        and his art to lift the Latino community, asylum seekers, immigrant 
        families, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) students, and 
        more over the course of his career; and
Whereas Alejandro Fernandez has been able to transcend cultural boundaries and 
        appeal to various audience, his songs have touched the hearts of 
        millions worldwide: Now, therefore, be it
    Resolved, That is it the sense of the House of Representatives 
that--
            (1) the contributions of Alejandro ``El Potrillo'' 
        Fernandez to Latin music continue to enrich the music industry 
        and inspire countless individuals across the globe; and
            (2) the lasting and continued legacy of Alejandro Fernandez 
        as a legendary Latin Musician should be recognized and 
        celebrated.
