Whereas Washington State is a global leader in the space industry; Whereas Redmond, Washington, has a rich history of contributions to the space industry starting in 1967, when the first space company broke ground on their site in Redmond;
Whereas Redmond is home to a major developer and manufacturer of chemical and electrical propulsion systems that has contributed to numerous NASA missions; Whereas vital suppliers for the space industry are located in Redmond, as well as data management and analysis suppliers;
Whereas Redmond leverages its strength in information technology, manufacturing, and aerospace to provide an environment for small businesses in this industry to grow; Whereas, in the last decade, multiple companies have chosen to locate and expand their satellite manufacturing facilities in Redmond;
Whereas Redmond, as a result, is a global satellite manufacturing hub, manufacturing more satellites than any other city in the world; Whereas, in March 2023, the City of Redmond issued a proclamation designating the Redmond Space District; and
Whereas the Redmond Space District creates an ecosystem of innovation, technology, knowledge, and human capital for the space industry: Now, therefore, be it That the House of Representatives recognizes the growing space industry in the Redmond Space District.
