RESOLUTION
Amending the Rules of the House of Representatives to require each
Member, Delegate, Resident Commissioner, officer, and employee of the
House of Representatives to complete a medical emergency preparedness
training, and for other purposes.
Resolved,
SECTION 1. MANDATORY MEDICAL EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS TRAINING.
(a) In General.--Rule XXIX of the Rules of the House of
Representatives is amended by adding at the end the following:
``5.(a) Each Member, Delegate, Resident Commissioner, officer, and
employee of the House of Representatives shall complete a medical
emergency preparedness training offered by the Office of the Attending
Physician, which shall include training in--
``(1) cardiopulmonary resuscitation; and
``(2) the use of an automated external defibrillator.
``(b)(1) Each Member, Delegate, Resident Commissioner, officer, and
employee of the House shall complete the training under this clause not
later than 90 days after beginning service to the House, and annually
thereafter.
``(2) The Office of the Attending Physician shall provide
certification of the completion of the training established by this
paragraph.''.
(b) Effective Date.--
(1) In general.--This resolution and the amendments made by
this resolution shall take effect on the date that is 90 days
after the date of the adoption of this resolution.
(2) Training deadline for current congress.--Not later than
90 days after the effective date specified in paragraph (1), an
individual who is serving as a Member, Delegate, Resident
Commissioner, officer, or employee of the House of
Representatives as of such effective date shall complete the
medical emergency preparedness training required under clause
5(a) of Rule XXIX of the Rules of the House of Representatives,
as added by this resolution.
