RES. 1214</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20240508">May 8, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="T000483">Mr. Trone</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="O000086">Mr. Owens</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="C001061">Mr. Cleaver</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="C001135">Mrs. Chavez-DeRemer</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="W000788">Ms. Williams of Georgia</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="M001206">Mr. Morelle</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HED00">Committee on Education and the Workforce</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Honoring the resiliency of America’s teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week of May 6, 2024, through May 13, 2024.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas teachers continue to work to overcome the learning deficits resulting from the COVID school closures;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas teachers are embracing new paradigms and pedagogies for teaching that reach diverse learners;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas teachers are overcoming the issues surrounding chronic absenteeism by creating welcoming school environments that partner with parents, families, and communities to support the learning of all children;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas teachers in public, private, charter, and homeschools provide a multitude of choices for all children to become successful, thriving members of society;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas teachers continue to embrace rigorous expectations of their students to ensure they are college, career, and vocation ready;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas teachers constantly seek opportunities for professional development, such as National Board Certification, and more than half of all teachers possess a master’s degree;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas 84 percent of teachers are staying in the profession, and in the same school;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the average teacher has 14.5 years of experience, and 46.5 percent have more than 15 years of experience;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas teachers spend an average of 52 hours each week on all teaching and other school-related activities; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas it would be appropriate to honor teacher resilience: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body style="traditional" id="HCA5DEC91A6474F56B5B9132022E1F7B6"><section id="HDAA661496C3946E8902E29686FE8B69C" section-type="undesignated-section" display-inline="yes-display-inline"><enum/><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">That the House of Representatives—</text><paragraph id="H871397538B454C7EBE7AD78B9CE8D317"><enum>(1)</enum><text>recognizes the ability of teachers to overcome the most challenging of adverse events;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H3F75AE51576B4E1C9C864B1DF64B6F11"><enum>(2)</enum><text>admires the efforts teachers make every day to enter the Nation’s classrooms and meet the unique needs of all children;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H385B63EAF4574BA0ADDD9A42442D13B8"><enum>(3)</enum><text>respects the hard work of teachers in constantly improving their practice in search of effective strategies for their classes;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HE2F9C0D4495A4A2CB793D411E3F7EBAC"><enum>(4)</enum><text>applauds the devotion and commitment teachers demonstrate for their profession and their students; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H287077CF722844FF9E35FEAF416500E3"><enum>(5)</enum><text>encourages all to demonstrate gratitude for the efforts of the teachers in our communities and for the unflinching resilience they demonstrate to benefit our country.</text></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
