R. 9895</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20241001">October 1, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="G000578">Mr. Gaetz</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="B000825">Ms. Boebert</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="M001211">Mrs. Miller of Illinois</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="B001316">Mr. Burlison</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="W000814">Mr. Weber of Texas</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="N000026">Mr. Nehls</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="O000175">Mr. Ogles</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="B001302">Mr. Biggs</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name>, and in addition to the Committee on <committee-name committee-id="HGO00">Oversight and Accountability</committee-name>, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned</action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To limit the availability of Federal financial assistance for entities that aid or facilitate illegal immigration, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H27DB043E174F458C9283AE361DDF3FC9" style="OLC"><section id="HF46D09A4B48E4763B8421DDD8670F219" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Blocking Assistance and Resources to Restrict Illegal Entry and Residency Act of 2024</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>BARRIER Act of 2024</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HDB8D8ED039684CEA80A1651D638E00F0"><enum>2.</enum><header>Limitation on Federal financial assistance for entities that aid or facilitate illegal immigration</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Beginning in the first fiscal year that begins after the date of enactment of this Act, an entity (including a nongovernmental organization and a corporation) is ineligible to receive any Federal financial assistance (as such term is defined in section 7501(a)(5) of title 31, United States Code) if the entity aids or facilitates the entry of aliens into the United States in violation of the immigration laws (as such term is defined in section 101 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/8/1101">8 U.S.C. 1101</external-xref>)), including by providing, promoting, or advertising, transportation, shelter, financial support, or legal assistance—</text><paragraph id="H72F44C893D0040DDAAD111036A806B26"><enum>(1)</enum><text>to aliens attempting to enter the United States in violation of the immigration laws; or</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H7DA96E13F6EB4A43BE20CC43301B30FB"><enum>(2)</enum><text>to aliens who are present in the United States without lawful status under the immigration laws.</text></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
