R. 9802</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20240925">September 25, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="B001314">Mr. Bean of Florida</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HIF00">Committee on Energy and Commerce</committee-name>, and in addition to the Committee on <committee-name committee-id="HWM00">Ways and Means</committee-name>, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned</action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend title XI of the Social Security Act to require the Secretary of Health and Human Services to verify whether a health care provider is licensed in good standing before issuing the provider a unique health identifier, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H79A5428360A64AC298C2797757BC5C58" style="OLC"><section section-type="section-one" id="HE3516884C772469A889351912B808634"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Medical License Verification Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H38B266A44EA2469D82C1F8C6BAA790D2"><enum>2.</enum><header> Requirement to verify that a health care provider is licensed in good standing before issuing a unique health identifier</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1173(b) of the Social Security Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1320d-2">42 U.S.C. 1320d–2(b)</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following new paragraph:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HD9800C9CD2EA45259032A71B1BE0E564"><paragraph id="H64E4CA9E27564D589D7F147650BB076B"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Verification of license in good standing</header><text>Not later than 30 days after the date of enactment of this paragraph, the Secretary shall establish and implement an automated system that enables the Secretary to verify whether a person described in section 1172(a)(3) who is an applicant for a unique health identifier and who claims in the application to be licensed in a State is actually licensed in that State and that such license is in good standing. Such verification shall be done before providing the applicant with such an identifier.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
