was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HWM00">Committee on Ways and Means</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to expand eligibility for the refundable credit for coverage under a qualified health plan.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HAD48DCE709754988954C029092B7C98D" style="OLC"><section id="H6EF74A7F18AC41109DA5ABF6968821D7" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Health Care Affordability Act of 2024</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H456DD863ECD9480E94B3C2ECBAE836C7" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Increase in eligibility for credit</header><subsection id="HC904D54862CB4332A922859C8989DE79"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Subparagraph (A) of <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/26/36B">section 36B(c)(1)</external-xref> of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 is amended by striking <quote>but does not exceed 400 percent</quote> . </text></subsection><subsection id="H04096BE931B94BECBF3BE96AED739424"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Applicable percentages</header><paragraph id="HA5A43866683F4817944D1E98007E8BC2"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Subparagraph (A) of <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/26/36B">section 36B(b)(3)</external-xref> of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 is amended to read as follows:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HF6906BC2044748F38C0DDCBC3CB7AB90"><subparagraph id="HD0BEAF5F62FB4A4B88BB8C55D2F04AC7"><enum>(A)</enum><header>Applicable percentage</header><text>The applicable percentage for any taxable year shall be the percentage such that the applicable percentage for any taxpayer whose household income is within an income tier specified in the following table shall increase, on a sliding scale in a linear manner, from the initial premium percentage to the final premium percentage specified in such table for such income tier:</text><table blank-lines-before="1" table-type="" table-template-name="Generic: 1 text, 2 num" align-to-level="section" id="HC9577F43E9EA4CC98432771E937FCEAA"><enum>(A)</enum><text>Paragraph (1) of section 36B(c) of such Code is amended by striking subparagraph (E).</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H0027626C791C4A41B063499C7C5D3DAE"><enum>(B)</enum><text>Subparagraph (C) of section 36B(c)(2) of such Code is amended by striking clause (iv).</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="HE498391EEC464759ADA1CC0328AC5AF3"><enum>(C)</enum><text>Paragraph (4) of section 36B(c) of such Code is amended by striking subparagraph (F).</text></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HF657E3C1EB2F4DA3A1383101A642F359" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall apply to taxable years beginning after December 31, 2025. </text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
