R. 951</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20230209">February 9, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S001150">Mr. Schiff</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="C001127">Mrs. Cherfilus-McCormick</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="O000173">Ms. Omar</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HED00">Committee on Education and the Workforce</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To prohibit educational institutions that require students to provide information with respect to their menstrual cycles from receiving Federal funds.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H3D3991F0220A4E1DB4C8CB47814DEFCB" style="OLC"><section id="H3AC6F39FBBB048058E245B1C88C0D3EC" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Privacy in Education Regarding Individuals' Own Data Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>PERIOD Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HAE6640AE7EDA4410A9380EF2D4A0357F"><enum>2.</enum><header>Prohibition on receipt of Federal funds for certain educational institutions</header><subsection id="H1F2AB84DDF324BFAABABD6B460C44175"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Prohibition</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">No Federal funds may be made available to any educational institution that requires any student at, or served by, such institution to provide information with respect to the menstrual cycle of such student.</text></subsection><subsection id="HD729910DE8BD4A90A670D19AC0284920"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In this section:</text><paragraph id="H2FC52F3FD5524C5FA1B102BF89CB8AA7"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Educational institution</header><text>The term <term>educational institution</term> means a local educational agency, State educational agency, elementary school, secondary school, or institution of higher education. </text></paragraph><paragraph id="H0BC9B5F47FE440CCA37A0B24843ED02C"><enum>(2)</enum><header>ESEA terms</header><text>The terms <term>elementary school</term>, <term>local educational agency</term>, <term>secondary school</term>, and <term>State educational agency</term> have the meanings given the terms in section 8101 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/7801">20 U.S.C. 7801</external-xref>).</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HBAD32D0460C94F0BA4E983FD9DD8F8A4"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Institution of higher education</header><text>The term <term>institution of higher education</term> has the meaning given the term in section 102 of Higher Education Act of 1965 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/1002">20 U.S.C. 1002</external-xref>). </text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
