R. 9349</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20240813">August 13, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="H001090">Mr. Harder of California</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="V000135">Mr. Van Orden</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HWM00">Committee on Ways and Means</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Tariff Act of 1930 to provide that required country-of-origin labeling for any agricultural product packaged in a can shall be on the front label or top of such can, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H943292C761184992909870DD0AFE8154" style="OLC"><section id="HC6FAB338F53D4DACB717ACCED0361D3C" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>American Consumer Awareness of National Source Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>American CANS Act</short-title></quote>. </text></section><section id="H15181AA363B34C7BB99A5608623E7644"><enum>2.</enum><header>Method of notification of country of origin of an agricultural product packaged in a can</header><subsection id="H747AE63824EC4A638D77FEE8AC05BAFA"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 304(b) of the Tariff Act of 1930 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/19/1304">19 U.S.C. 1304(b)</external-xref>) is amended by inserting after the first sentence the following: <quote>In the case of such an article that is an agricultural product (as defined in section 207 of the Agricultural Marketing Act of 1946) packaged in a can, the marking required under this subsection shall appear on the front label of the can or be stamped, embossed, or printed on the top of the can.</quote>.</text></subsection><subsection id="H1D84BF60205D4E51B5922178269D4DF1"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The amendment made by subsection (a) shall only apply to agricultural products imported on or after the date that is 18 months after the date of enactment of this Act.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
