R. 8973</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20240709">July 9, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="T000487">Ms. Tokuda</sponsor> (for herself, <cosponsor name-id="P000619">Mrs. Peltola</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="C001055">Mr. Case</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HED00">Committee on Education and the Workforce</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian Culture and Art Development Act.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H4EB48C3010A647C29D6E2814915E9CC5" style="OLC"><section id="HE321F88A156948BBB0E8893F3EBA8812" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Native Arts and Culture Promotion Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H7EBC3C8452354495BC760D65639B6164"><enum>2.</enum><header>Amendments to American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian Culture and Art Development Act</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1521 of the American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian Culture and Art Development Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/4441">20 U.S.C. 4441</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="HF34267E92D42460DAE2085284428AFC8"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subsection (a), by striking <quote>private,</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H330F3E38379948DB8ACCA2BBEDB5053E"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subsection (c)—</text><subparagraph id="HC4BA049107D24B85A8DD31F33EB9AEA9"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by amending paragraph (2) to read as follows: </text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="H4F893E5A685B46B0B01DB14779778370" display-inline="no-display-inline"><paragraph id="H815C8481869A458EA431F56616BE9407"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">For any grants made with respect to Native Hawaiian art and culture, the members of the governing board which is required to be established under paragraph (1) shall— </text><subparagraph id="H63FEDE7BADD94A60BEDAB528AD746E07"><enum>(A)</enum><text>include Native Hawaiians and individuals widely recognized in the field of Native Hawaiian art and culture, and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H141A80C4FD834F57A44A153F83BED12A"><enum>(B)</enum><text>serve for a fixed term. </text></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>; and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph><subparagraph id="HCB9812EAB3CB4E86B6345CF45979B39E"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in paragraph (3)—</text><clause id="H13F153702B5848DA8FFE24DA4DAC7373"><enum>(i)</enum><text>in subparagraph (A), striking the comma at the end and inserting <quote>, and</quote>;</text></clause><clause id="H4C8D4856F6E344DC82F69368AA16C146"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>by striking subparagraph (B); and</text></clause><clause id="H621BFDE977D04C37AC3BC9417D820465"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>by redesignating subparagraph (C) as subparagraph (B). </text></clause></subparagraph></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
