R. 8894</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20240628">June 28, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="K000381">Mr. Kilmer</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="I000056">Mr. Issa</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HSY00">Committee on Science, Space, and Technology</committee-name>, and in addition to the Committee on <committee-name committee-id="HPW00">Transportation and Infrastructure</committee-name>, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned</action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To improve the distribution of tsunami alerts to the public, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H66CB884E03044F399C02829C017A8571" style="OLC"><section id="H7F6A47563E65414A99E8FAC7373A98B2" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Review of NOAA Weather Radio coverage</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration shall—</text><paragraph id="H5CAF2EBE118F43728802BDB2B0956C53"><enum>(1)</enum><text>conduct a review of the extent to which NOAA Weather Radio coverage extends to populated areas at risk of tsunamis; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H13237633CD3A4142A877CA2514DC10DA"><enum>(2)</enum><text>make the results of such review available to the public.</text></paragraph></section><section id="H5C8F73599F8D4413A8E1FD96A629D2E2"><enum>2.</enum><header>Use of IPAWS to deliver tsunami alerts</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, in consultation with the Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Federal Communications Commission, shall clarify and document the responsibilities and decision-making process of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the Federal Communications Commission with respect to the use of the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System to deliver tsunami alerts to the Emergency Alert System.</text></section></legis-body></bill>
