R. 871</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20230208">February 8, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="B001285">Ms. Brownley</sponsor> (for herself and <cosponsor name-id="W000822">Mrs. Watson Coleman</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 to provide for the eligibility of Transportation Security Administration employees to receive public safety officers death benefits, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HEE62DE827B0A4D21AF8845BB7DBFD43B" style="OLC"><section id="HE1850CB224404864842E9A68D5EE2408" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Honoring Our Fallen TSA Officers Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H58459E0FC72C4E138641F33CC7F0C38E"><enum>2.</enum><header>Transportation Security Administration employees eligible to receive public safety officers’ death benefits</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1204(14) of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/34/10284">34 U.S.C. 10284(14)</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="H6F8A4BE22EDB4EA2BA3DF9EB7E970DA3"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subparagraph (F), by striking <quote>or</quote> at the end;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H5C21B2D004AC4E1798ADCB28F4D68CF9"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subparagraph (G), by striking the period at the end and inserting <quote>; or</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H3F09D0266E2F4DD0959A54FD97EE2B3E"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by inserting after subparagraph (G) the following:</text><quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HFCD4333280F94373871CDEEBDC8A4222" style="OLC"><subparagraph id="HBA93435B831F41B09A5BBB335B39731B"><enum>(H)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">an employee of the Transportation Security Administration who is performing official duties of the Administration, if those official duties are related to protecting the Nation's transportation systems to ensure freedom of movement for people and commerce.</text></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section><section id="HD628CB4FA6444AE0AC131D04050B6E83"><enum>3.</enum><header>Applicability</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline"> This Act and the amendments made by this Act shall apply with respect an injury sustained by an individual described in subparagraph (H) of section 1204(14) of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/34/10284">34 U.S.C. 10284(14)</external-xref>), as added by this Act, on or after October 31, 2013.</text></section></legis-body></bill>
