R. 7883</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20240405">April 5, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S001224">Mr. Self</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HVR00">Committee on Veterans' Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend title 38, United States Code, to modify the duty of the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to provide a veteran with a medical examination in connection with certain claims for disability compensation under the laws administered by the Secretary, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HD52FA10A896C417088131E5C7208C66E" style="OLC"><section id="H26F5BF3D0BBC40329DE77FF6E84758B9" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Toxic Exposures Examination Improvement Act</short-title></quote>. </text></section><section id="H33818816CF1C451FAA1A4EBDA88C3BF5"><enum>2.</enum><header>Modification of duty of Secretary of Veterans Affairs to provide for medical examinations in connection with certain claims for disability compensation; clarifications with respect to certain exposure tracking record system</header><subsection id="HD064A60B5DCE4FF191B1A4D00FC42FE7"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Modification</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 1168(a) of title 38, United States Code, is amended by striking <quote>such evidence is not sufficient to establish a service connection for the disability</quote> and inserting <quote>such evidence does not contain sufficient medical evidence for the Secretary to make a decision on the claim</quote>.</text></subsection><subsection id="H8D7C7E313CB24042B4545B7953B093DF"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Clarifications</header><text>Such title is further amended—</text><paragraph id="HBEEEAF1225F34D87A5918027A2CDD6A9"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in section 1119(a)(1), by inserting <quote>that indicates that the veteran was subject to a toxic exposure</quote> after <quote>tracking record system</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H3EF66935F78D47C499554FA70BC1B57E"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subclause (i) of section 1710(e)(4)(C), by inserting <quote>that indicates that the veteran was subject to a toxic exposure</quote> before <quote>for the veteran</quote>.</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
