R. 7187</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20240201">February 1, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S001214">Mr. Steube</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="H001096">Ms. Hageman</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="T000480">Mr. Timmons</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="B001302">Mr. Biggs</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="W000814">Mr. Weber of Texas</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="B000825">Ms. Boebert</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="G000565">Mr. Gosar</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="D000615">Mr. Duncan</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="L000578">Mr. LaMalfa</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="H001093">Mrs. Houchin</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="B001291">Mr. Babin</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="D000628">Mr. Dunn of Florida</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="C001116">Mr. Clyde</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="G000594">Mr. Tony Gonzales of Texas</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="T000478">Ms. Tenney</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="K000392">Mr. Kustoff</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="B001295">Mr. Bost</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To modify eligibility requirements for amateur sports governing organizations.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HF01A6E61791644078F65B0BA73B0CCCD" style="OLC"><section id="H47B01A5837514B83B94A2F99D14894F2" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Protection of Women in Olympic and Amateur Sports Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H66CE3A7F9AF243CFBA708A57E3867770"><enum>2.</enum><header>Eligibility requirements</header><subsection id="HC8F0B52825D8420E827C5E54691115D0"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Definition</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 220501(b) of title 36, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="USC" id="HCE2E198F7F294B318F80203BE10CA9F9" display-inline="no-display-inline"><paragraph id="H3E3BB5094E734EC6AC1DDA53C45D79E8"><enum>(13)</enum><text><quote>female</quote> means an individual who has, had, will have—or would have, but for a developmental or genetic anomaly or historical accident—the reproductive system that at some point produces, transports, and utilizes eggs for fertilization.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H3D740D785DD24CF48BE1D1BBBA59EDE3"><enum>(14)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline"><quote>male</quote> means an individual who has, had, will have—or would have, but for a developmental or genetic anomaly or historical accident—the reproductive system that at some point produces, transports, and utilizes sperm for fertilization.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H554F239DA09F474CBBC7917BAE4DCC4E"><enum>(15)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline"><quote>sex</quote> means an individual’s biological sex, either male or female.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection><subsection id="H759619AB4F984E7D895D10956B412BB5"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Eligibility</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 220522 of title 36, United States Code, is amended—</text><paragraph id="H6DCBB38C7B274EA68C45B2DDE49235B2"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (18), by striking <quote>and</quote> at the end;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HCB93056A27984CE0AB7B11F29031B5B0"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in paragraph (19), by striking the period and inserting <quote>; and</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H63E249647A484CE0BC71D73CB2766CAC"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="USC" id="HDF0DF41D0193487CA1D245C6A256B587" display-inline="no-display-inline"><paragraph id="H2ABC042AC8D043FD9CEAC5C5F1CE3878"><enum>(20)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">prohibits a person whose sex is male from participating in an amateur athletic competition that is designated for females, women, or girls.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
