R. 7068</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20240122">January 22, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="P000613">Mr. Panetta</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="P000048">Mr. Pfluger</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HIF00">Committee on Energy and Commerce</committee-name>, and in addition to the Committee on <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">the Judiciary</committee-name>, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned</action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Controlled Substances Act to provide for the scheduling of tianeptine as a schedule III substance, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HB570E249B5C54131824FE48CCB24E219" style="OLC"><section id="HCA6BFE401CD24B6ABA488D9A3512F73F" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Scheduling Tianeptine and Analogues Now to Defend Against Emerging Opioids Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>STAND Against Emerging Opioids Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H6C4115F80C4041A2BA74FBC8C6FBE71B"><enum>2.</enum><header>Scheduling of tianeptine</header><subsection id="HBE04AAD8F5754F38A2FEB842E3145B84"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 202(c) of the Controlled Substances Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/21/812">21 U.S.C. 812(c)</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end of schedule III the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="HDAA46DDAFEBD47AF90F4E1D7400BCE53" display-inline="no-display-inline"><subsection id="HAD8DB88FC2664E01A7F97110DD815848"><enum>(f)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Tianeptine, including its analogues, salts, isomers, and salts of isomers.</text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection><subsection id="HF172297AD61B45D79D0BBE7C08F88667"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendment made by subsection (a) shall become effective on the date that is 90 days after the date of enactment of this Act.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
