R. 6625</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20231206">December 6, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="F000478">Mr. Fry</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="W000806">Mr. Webster of Florida</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="N000190">Mr. Norman</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="D000615">Mr. Duncan</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="H001096">Ms. Hageman</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="H001091">Mrs. Hinson</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="H001077">Mr. Higgins of Louisiana</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="T000480">Mr. Timmons</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="R000612">Mr. Rose</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="W000795">Mr. Wilson of South Carolina</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="W000814">Mr. Weber of Texas</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="M001219">Mr. Moylan</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="L000600">Mr. Langworthy</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="D000032">Mr. Donalds</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="B001302">Mr. Biggs</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="P000599">Mr. Posey</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HAS00">Committee on Armed Services</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To direct the Secretary of Defense to submit a report about the effects on national security of the surveillance conducted by the People’s Republic of China via the high-altitude surveillance balloon shot down in the airspace of the United States in February 2023, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HB3F0990418ED45AD8DA2320FDC61CA1B" style="OLC"><section id="HFE842EFD675E4278A834AF670016F138" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Chinese Spy Balloon Assessment Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HD9B0B0B079614999865E1904D4B71478"><enum>2.</enum><header>Report on the effects on national security of certain surveillance conducted by the People’s Republic of China</header><subsection id="H787AAD35AD7A4D68B95916899AF4C0B6"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Report</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Not later than 90 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense, in consultation with the President, shall submit to the Committees on Armed Services of the Senate and the House of Representatives a report about the effects on national security of surveillance conducted by the People’s Republic of China via the high-altitude surveillance balloon shot down in the airspace of the United States in February 2023, including—</text><paragraph id="H3AA71EC4861F413185B2164B2C14A5A6"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">a description of any such effects on military installations; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H7F67A9B8C1894BEB96C49FA970A28EE2"><enum>(2)</enum><text>an analysis of any technology and materials recovered from the high-altitude surveillance balloon, including each country of origin of such technology and materials, if a country of origin can be determined. </text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HC79FF6FB65C2409A96688BD666D9800A"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Form</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The report required under this section shall be submitted in an unclassified form, but may include a classified annex.</text></subsection><subsection id="H914C4569B0A14E048833D96DC88680EE"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Military installation defined</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In this section, the term <quote>military installation</quote> has the meaning given such term in section 2801 of title 10, United States Code.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
