R. 656</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20230131">January 31, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="C001091">Mr. Castro of Texas</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="M001194">Mr. Moolenaar</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S001209">Ms. Spanberger</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="C001053">Mr. Cole</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HED00">Committee on Education and the Workforce</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Higher Education Act of 1965 to include child development and early learning as community services under the Federal work-study program.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HE7B2457C0AC940AC87B7DC199D0755EE" style="OLC"><section id="H515F6BE0B45640F7808FD4474DB47324" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Head Start for Our Future Act</short-title></quote>. </text></section><section id="H798DC192AF9D4A0580898716A536E6F3"><enum>2.</enum><header>Child development and early learning community services</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 441(c)(1) of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/1087-51">20 U.S.C. 1087–51(c)(1)</external-xref>) is amended by striking <quote>literacy training</quote> and inserting <quote>child development and early learning (including Head Start programs and Early Head Start programs carried out under the Head Start Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/9831">42 U.S.C. 9831 et seq.</external-xref>)), literacy training</quote>.</text></section></legis-body></bill>
