R. 5449</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20230913">September 13, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S001205">Ms. Scanlon</sponsor> (for herself, <cosponsor name-id="R000579">Mr. Ryan</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="E000296">Mr. Evans</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend title 18, United States Code, to make fraudulent dealings in firearms and ammunition unlawful, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HFC3F4C1C1B49481C8937C7D458294F87" style="OLC"><section id="H0BAC8811BCD74C468C7019C76145C62A" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Stopping the Fraudulent Sales of Firearms Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section section-type="subsequent-section" id="H5681FE6BAB62456681C5F3E5E1BD7E78"><enum>2.</enum><header>Fraudulent dealings in firearms</header><subsection id="H1BB1B5BB08404970BFF68C839F6E3544"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 922(a) of title 18, United States Code, is amended—</text><paragraph id="H1F849BE121CD4569812355B80C017F98"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in paragraph (9), by striking the period and at the end and inserting <quote>; and</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H951644CDB0E54D8882F1DC02504D4EE9"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H3581C09B446C49DF927B122C0609EC65"><paragraph id="HFB768A935DA64EF8B0B834CFB687ADB8"><enum>(10)</enum><text>for any person—</text><subparagraph id="H53BBC9C406C34DBB84AF8E6EC4EC6AA9"><enum>(A)</enum><text>to import, manufacture, or sell a firearm or ammunition by means of false or fraudulent pretenses, representations, or promises; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H766F41092FF34473B3B0861348DA9478"><enum>(B)</enum><text>to transmit or cause to be transmitted, by means of wire, radio, or television communication in interstate or foreign commerce, any communication relating to the importation, manufacture, or sale described in subparagraph (A).</text></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HDBAB099749604C068185E9F47BBCAE1E" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Penalty</header><text>Section 924(a)(1)(B) of title 18, United States Code, is amended by inserting <quote>(a)(10),</quote> before <quote>(f)</quote>.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
