R. 5129</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20230801">August 1, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S001214">Mr. Steube</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HFA00">Committee on Foreign Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To direct the Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs to notify United States citizens regarding passport expiration and renewal, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H5670611A6D7945268122D4715F801B05" style="OLC"><section id="HE5790698E41648A098CC0B0CDD0F052A" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Passport Notification Act of 2023</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H1CCEF8DCF84041E1A57D87BFE966114A"><enum>2.</enum><header>Required notification regarding passport expiration and renewal</header><subsection id="H9B5B8CE97AEC4CB292987AEA1822F4AF"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Requirement</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">For each United States citizen in possession of a valid unexpired passport, not later than 180 days prior to the date on which such passport is scheduled to expire, the Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs shall provide to the United States citizen—</text><paragraph id="H66FC6F24779F45D4AFCAFBA533BB3E55"><enum>(1)</enum><text>a notification regarding such pending expiration date; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H4BF8839C06564D74BAC1387729434A78"><enum>(2)</enum><text>information on the process for the renewal of such passport, including an identification of any relevant locations at which materials required for such renewal may be submitted.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HC4AAE7BA649E470F8BB0A2567C818D9C"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Form</header><text>Each notification required under subsection (a) may be submitted in electronic or paper form.</text></subsection><subsection id="H051BEB2FE8FC4108B01A985D9B1EF0A9"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Applicability</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The requirement under subsection (a) shall apply with respect to passports the expiration of which is scheduled to occur on or after the date that is 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act. </text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
