R. 5000</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20230727">July 27, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="G000583">Mr. Gottheimer</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="F000466">Mr. Fitzpatrick</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="K000394">Mr. Kim of New Jersey</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="M000194">Ms. Mace</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="B001298">Mr. Bacon</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="D000230">Mr. Davis of North Carolina</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="M001217">Mr. Moskowitz</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="J000288">Mr. Johnson of Georgia</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="G000587">Ms. Garcia of Texas</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="G000594">Mr. Tony Gonzales of Texas</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="C001059">Mr. Costa</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="T000460">Mr. Thompson of California</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 to provide funding for school resource officers, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HF9CBD7A303B042989FB001755B40924A" style="OLC"><section id="H2DB54BC24E12401695ADA4FA31E782F4" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Strengthening Our Schools Act of 2023</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>SOS Act of 2023</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H4A44B67B0992411D9CAD119B38932CDF"><enum>2.</enum><header>Funding for school resource officers</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1101(a)(11) of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/34/10261">34 U.S.C. 10261(a)(11)</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="H5E37BECED0974CBD8B9AE39CD4E1F758"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subparagraph (A), by striking <quote>$1,047,119,000 for each of fiscal years 2006 through 2009</quote> and inserting <quote>$1,097,119,000 for each of fiscal years 2024 through 2033</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H3E571816033B48A4BD47676D3A15FB9C"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subparagraph (B), by inserting after <quote>of the purposes of part Q</quote> the following: <quote>, and not less than $50,000,000 shall be allocated for grants pursuant to applications submitted by units of local government or law enforcement agencies for the purposes described in section 1701(b)(12)</quote>. </text></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
