<section id="HC49C2163542B493A836C9CD6195C4A25" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Targeting Child Care Funds Based on Poverty Act of 2023</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="H433A60E83A544A06A2E2DE3E80C14795" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Distribution of additional matching funds based on share of children in poverty</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 418(a)(2)(B) of the Social Security Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/618">42 U.S.C. 618(a)(2)(B)</external-xref>) is amended—</text>
<paragraph id="HD0D43510AB234A1CBDB92003FB767560"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking all that precedes <quote>total</quote> and inserting the following:</text> <quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H154171F8351C4947BD6B53A9FEEBE266"> <subparagraph id="HADE8FD9507C34F72B02E595F297EA2F6"><enum>(B)</enum><header>Allotments to States</header> <clause id="H02E3B099C8CF4404BDFDBA769E11CE90"><enum>(i)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Except as provided in clause (ii), the</text></clause></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>; and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph>
<paragraph id="H51DD64A6796644D6B2D3EE9A5E05310D"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by adding after and below the end the following:</text> <quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H048653336D484E48B273C4486FB167A2"> <clause id="H04A024B35BDB443A804E5B963462FF39"><enum>(ii)</enum><header>Special rule</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">To the extent that the total amount referred to in clause (i) for fiscal year 2024 or for any succeeding fiscal year exceeds the total amount so referred to for fiscal year 2022, the excess shall be allotted among the States based on the share of each State of the number of children in poverty who have not attained 13 years of age.</text></clause><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section>
