R. 4788</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20230720">July 20, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="H001038">Mr. Higgins of New York</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HWM00">Committee on Ways and Means</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To make opioid treatment programs eligible for grants under section 2008 of the Social Security Act.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H22EC3876521748ADA3F0FF535FEA0E30" style="OLC"><section id="HC38F3AE133DD450FB9A56FB09007EA5E" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Opioid Treatment Providers Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H5C404679A8FD4A9FB3DFAB6DD2105DE4"><enum>2.</enum><header>Eligibility of opioid treatment programs for health professions opportunity grants</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 2008(a)(4)(A) of the Social Security Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1397g">42 U.S.C. 1397g(a)(4)(A)</external-xref>) is amended by striking <quote>or a community-based organization</quote> and inserting <quote>, a community-based organization, or an opioid treatment program (as defined in section 1861(jjj)(2)) and other high quality comprehensive addiction care providers</quote>.</text></section><section id="H1DD990F6B3074FFA86EDB6D3BDF039C8"><enum>3.</enum><header>Effective date</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The amendment made by this Act shall take effect on October 1, 2023.</text></section></legis-body></bill>
