R. 3956</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20230609">June 9, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="B001309">Mr. Burchett</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="C001068">Mr. Cohen</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S001214">Mr. Steube</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="F000466">Mr. Fitzpatrick</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S000168">Ms. Salazar</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="G000578">Mr. Gaetz</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="M001196">Mr. Moulton</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="F000246">Mr. Fallon</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="F000459">Mr. Fleischmann</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="M001135">Ms. Manning</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="N000194">Mr. Nickel</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend title 18, United States Code, to enhance penalties for certain crimes committed against veterans, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H2AEC2BC843F041088C2897B104F2BFE6" style="OLC"><section id="H840AB8920B4C4FC38B4AA7FC303DDA24" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Veterans Protection from Fraud Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H1B2196848741486DAD742E2749A08F9A"><enum>2.</enum><header>Enhanced penalties for certain crimes against veterans</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 2326(2) of title 18, United States Code, is amended—</text><paragraph id="H87A9F07A353A4EF2A1DAD7B76399F565"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subparagraph (A), by striking <quote>or</quote> at the end;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H99AB8C9081A94105A38A7461E0684F2B"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subparagraph (B), by striking the comma and inserting <quote>; or</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HAE7525E36B134D5D8960739F7A52F82C"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by inserting after subparagraph (B) the following:</text><quoted-block style="USC" id="HE3876E552294473FA2B80E292950D60F" display-inline="no-display-inline"><subparagraph id="H0C0AAE390CC84D6095E2425DA58B6085"><enum>(C)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">targeted veterans (as such term is defined in section 101 of title 38) of any age,</text></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
