<official-title display="yes">To amend the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 to require a candidate for Congress to file additional information about a candidate’s educational background, military service, and employment history, and for other purposes.</official-title>

<section id="H37AB3692EF124ECB8E914B05D752259F" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Stopping Another Non-Truthful Office Seeker Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>SANTOS Act</short-title></quote>. </text></section> <section id="HAAACF70CFFDC4D01A033E6572C97E7E6"><enum>2.</enum><header>Additional information required from candidates for Congress</header> <subsection id="H1FC3B65927974AD8941C52C5F31BC8C2"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Information required</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 302(e) of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/52/30102">52 U.S.C. 30102(e)</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following:</text>
<quoted-block style="OLC" id="HE773C2CD32524BC99483456B150884D2" display-inline="no-display-inline">
<paragraph id="H28203EC3DFF24A7C9A288B9F5CEC5D85"><enum>(6)</enum><header>Additional information required from candidates for Congress</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Any individual who is a candidate for the House of Representatives or for the Senate shall include, in the designation required under paragraph (1), the following:</text> <subparagraph id="H53901A5FE598483DA1A8C2A257C4750A" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The educational background of the candidate.</text></subparagraph>
<subparagraph id="H1C6D7770C68D49189BC1245470275B9B"><enum>(B)</enum><text>The military service of the candidate, if any.</text></subparagraph> <subparagraph id="H9B495B338B794F11A1ECD690F58A1AA3"><enum>(C)</enum><text>The employment history of the candidate.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection>
<subsection id="H1980FC0D422D499BB3CB0E1499E8F2D3"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Penalty</header><text>Section 309(d)(1) of such Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/52/30109">52 U.S.C. 30109(d)(1)</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following: </text> <quoted-block style="traditional" id="H0B3785B8D55446319FD56326DEFF673C" display-inline="no-display-inline"> <subparagraph id="H3BDAD68378F64FD79BA57125B8844942" indent="up2"><enum>(E)</enum><text>Any individual who knowingly and willfully violates section 302(e)(6), including an individual who knowingly and willfully provides false information described in section 302(e)(6), shall be fined $100,000, imprisoned for 1 year, or both. </text></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection>
<subsection id="H6B84DA8E4A204697819D66AFF1381DCC"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall apply with respect to elections held on or after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text></subsection></section> </legis-body> </bill>
