R. 3198</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20230510">May 10, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="T000487">Ms. Tokuda</sponsor> (for herself, <cosponsor name-id="P000619">Mrs. Peltola</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="C001055">Mr. Case</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HWM00">Committee on Ways and Means</committee-name>, and in addition to the Committee on <committee-name committee-id="HIF00">Energy and Commerce</committee-name>, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned</action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to authorize the Secretary of Health and Human Services to make adjustments to payment rates for skilled nursing facilities under the Medicare program to account for certain unique circumstances.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H692019D1D2A54C84A5C7C23A7BB3FB17" style="OLC"><section id="HB9B611B3B0E14F028E5F8017F10AE96F" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Equitable Payments for Nursing Facilities Act of 2023</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HB3664B6FD2AC4AAB8EE4E380C31B4486"><enum>2.</enum><header>Authorizing the Secretary of Health and Human Services to make adjustments to payment rates for skilled nursing facilities under the Medicare program to account for certain unique circumstances</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1888(e)(4)(G) of the Social Security Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1395yy">42 U.S.C. 1395yy(e)(4)(G)</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following new clause:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="H4D9165146C5D423B906F3002F21B332B" display-inline="no-display-inline"><clause id="HF25EA696CB8B4724B3A7BE8FFE65F251"><enum>(iv)</enum><header>Adjustment for unique circumstances</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary may provide for such adjustments as determined appropriate by the Secretary to take into account the unique circumstances of skilled nursing facilities located in Alaska or Hawaii.</text></clause><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
