R. 1125</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20230221">February 21, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="F000446">Mr. Feenstra</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="M001215">Mrs. Miller-Meeks</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="N000193">Mr. Nunn of Iowa</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HED00">Committee on Education and the Workforce</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To require disclosure of the total amount of interest that would be paid over the life of a loan for certain Federal student loans.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H08C1DAA7D58C4635866CBB8113A1CC14" style="OLC"><section section-type="section-one" id="H6E9CD5F051434E4CB4E5F89DC1F7F6D0"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Student Transparency for Understanding Decisions in Education Net Terms Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>STUDENT Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H56D2960600244740B11A4FA9BC03B373"><enum>2.</enum><header>Interest disclosure</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 433(a) of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/1083">20 U.S.C. 1083(a)</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="H0302E57AEB164CA593EFF83C0FB362F5"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating paragraphs (18) and (19) as paragraphs (19) and (20), respectively; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H138A198572EB4EBDBE2678C9B6C75856"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting after paragraph (17) the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H54E96E45C40F454695E5CC4AA3F57D6C"><paragraph id="HDEFA3828B829492583367EE6AB3DB383"><enum>(18)</enum><text>the total amount of interest that would be paid over the life of the loan based on a standard 10-year repayment plan;</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
