<official-title display="yes">To authorize the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a study to assess the suitability and feasibility of designating certain land in California as the Monterey Bay National Heritage Area, and for other purposes.</official-title>

<section id="HC9EC647FDD754DCCBA19389391941912" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Monterey Bay National Heritage Area Study Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="H2398A68811C34BE2971E5921A5F73038"><enum>2.</enum><header>Study</header> <subsection id="H3850ECDC1D5D4203BD99BD0CFA1457C0"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>The Secretary of the Interior, in consultation with the State of California and local organizations and governmental agencies, Tribal governments, non-profit organizations, and other appropriate entities, shall conduct a study to assess the suitability and feasibility of designating the areas described in subsection (b) as a National Heritage Area, to be known as the <quote>Monterey Bay National Heritage Area</quote>.</text></subsection>
<subsection id="H30069B0473074AE984546548C3E8BB78"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Description of study area</header><text>The areas to be studied under subsection (a) include—</text> <paragraph id="H26FF786B0E7E4205AC53E8212CBAF949"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Monterey, San Mateo, and Santa Cruz, and San Luis Obispo counties in the State of California; and</text></paragraph>
<paragraph id="H81958AE0941F407087E01E8F7529D50E"><enum>(2)</enum><text>any other area in the State of California that—</text> <subparagraph id="H08C1D3DA4A8149F1A7F5CE544CE971EF"><enum>(A)</enum><text>has heritage aspects that are similar to the heritage aspects of an area described in paragraph (1); and</text></subparagraph>
<subparagraph id="H58FB40F6AE23455695E32F3F785767D7"><enum>(B)</enum><text>is adjacent to, or in the vicinity of, an area described in paragraph (1).</text></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection> <subsection id="H479B853BCBE14B48A9E144746D7771CA"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Applicable Law</header><text>The study required under subsection (a) shall be conducted in accordance with section 120103(a) of title 54, United States Code.</text></subsection></section>
