RES. 40</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20230307">March 7, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="T000478">Ms. Tenney</sponsor> (for herself, <cosponsor name-id="M001219">Mr. Moylan</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="M001212">Mr. Moore of Alabama</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="B001295">Mr. Bost</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="M001215">Mrs. Miller-Meeks</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S001196">Ms. Stefanik</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="B000740">Mrs. Bice</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S001222">Mr. Santos</cosponsor>) submitted the following joint resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>JOINT RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to prohibit voting in Federal, State, or local elections by individuals who are not citizens of the United States.</official-title></form><resolution-body style="constitutional-amendment" id="H4170915561574856AD64684AE4B5C666"><section display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" id="HCBE610CAD27F47799041BD5D24436E56"><text>That the following article is proposed as an amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which shall be valid to all intents and purposes as part of the Constitution when ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States within seven years after the date of its submission for ratification: </text><quoted-block style="traditional" id="HC0D2FE14266340EC9AD9B4725DE82415" display-inline="no-display-inline"><constitution-article id="H1234"><enum> —</enum><section id="HC76AB4BD64BE4D61A78D54128D15C651" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">An individual may not vote in any election for public office held in the United States, including any election for Federal, State, or local office, or vote on any ballot initiative or referendum held in the United States, unless the individual is a citizen of the United States.</text></section><section id="H3EC88C7CE00E43068A9DA500856C0905" display-inline="no-display-inline" section-type="section-one"><enum>2.</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.</text></section></constitution-article><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></resolution-body></resolution>
