RES. 70</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20230929">September 29, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="T000474">Mrs. Torres of California</sponsor> (for herself, <cosponsor name-id="F000459">Mr. Fleischmann</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="G000576">Mr. Grothman</cosponsor>) submitted the following concurrent resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HGO00">Committee on Oversight and Accountability</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>CONCURRENT RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Expressing support for designation of the first Friday of October as <quote>Manufacturing Day</quote>.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas, according to the most recent data, manufacturers contributed $2,790,000,000,000 to the economy, accounting for 11 percent of gross domestic product;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas this figure has risen significantly over the past decade, from $1,930,000,000,000 in 2012;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas manufacturers in the United States are a significant driver of innovation, spending $347,700,000,000 on research and development in 2020;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas nearly 13,000,000 people in the United States (or over 8 percent of the workforce) are employed directly in manufacturing, while many millions more jobs are supported through the supply chain and related industries;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the number of skilled, family wage jobs in this sector is increasing, presenting the opportunity to promote the benefits of a career in manufacturing to young people and their parents; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the first Friday of October would be an appropriate date to designate as <quote>Manufacturing Day</quote>: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body style="traditional" id="HF5A44767016B46DEB8B28CBF35EF5C5F"><section display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" id="H16141C016CF247DAA0CCAC5943C7576A"><enum/><text>That Congress supports the designation of <quote>Manufacturing Day</quote>.</text></section></resolution-body></resolution>
