considered and agreed to with an amended preamble</action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Designating March 8 through March 14, 2021, as <quote>Women of the Aviation Workforce Week</quote>.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas the first week of March is internationally known as <quote>Women of Aviation Worldwide Week</quote>; </text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas Women of Aviation Worldwide Week was created by the Institute for Women Of Aviation Worldwide;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas the aviation industry is anticipating a significant shortage of skilled professionals in the coming years;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the Department of Labor projected that, in the next 10 years, the overall employment of airline and commercial pilots is expected to grow more than 6 percent in the United States;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas less than 2 percent of the aircraft maintenance technicians in the world and less than 10 percent of all working aeronautical engineers are women;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas the Federal Aviation Administration reports that less than 8 percent of pilots and only 26 percent of air traffic controllers in the United States are women;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas women make up only 24 percent of the employees in the aerospace industry;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas aviation is a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (commonly known as <quote>STEM</quote>) focused career path;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas the future of an abundant aviation workforce depends on a robust and diverse pool of candidates; and</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas women such as Amelia Earhart, Cicely Williams, and Bessie Coleman have inspired, and will continue to inspire, young women to pursue careers in aviation: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body style="OLC" display-resolving-clause="yes-display-resolving-clause"><section display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" id="S1" commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="id93a2f77525ea4397b544f2d8e3e2e02e" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">designates March 8 through March 14, 2021, as <quote>Women of the Aviation Workforce Week</quote>;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idd0c371ad9c4d4631ad96a1f24d0d1800" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">celebrates the aviation workforce of the United States;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id0c0780f306f44c07b2ed0df759e1aaa6" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">encourages educational and training institutions to recruit women to join the aviation workforce;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="ide92b4c2f25554e82a85cc96c14bb01df" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(4)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">encourages employers in the aviation industry to hire a diverse workforce, including women, veterans, and other underrepresented individuals; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id8326951c5052490fa9cbaa7b794cbf93" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(5)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">commits to—</text><subparagraph id="id698A0C75BC4E4D04AEE2DED5456459D2" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">raising awareness about the gender gap in the air and space industry; and </text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idCAE0B335455A47858ADC92912A596B84" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">taking legislative actions to address the gender gap in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (commonly known as <quote>STEM</quote>) fields.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
