RES. 805</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20220928">September 28, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S353">Mr. Schatz</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S318">Mr. Wicker</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S308">Mr. Cardin</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S303">Mr. Thune</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S327">Mr. Warner</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S395">Mrs. Hyde-Smith</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was considered and agreed to</action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Supporting the designation of the week of September 18 through September 24, 2022, as <quote>Telehealth Awareness Week</quote>.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas telehealth allows a health care practitioner to furnish health care services to a patient or a practitioner at a different physical location than the health care practitioner;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas telehealth has played a significant role in supporting access to quality health care services for millions of patients during the COVID–19 public health emergency and will continue to be essential beyond the end of the public health emergency;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas more than 28,000,000 Medicare beneficiaries used telehealth during the first year of the COVID–19 pandemic;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Medicare beneficiaries used 88 times more telehealth services during the first year of the COVID–19 pandemic than they did in the prior year while the overall use of health care services among such beneficiaries remained relatively stable; </text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, following the unprecedented use of telehealth and virtual care services in response to the public health emergency, telehealth now represents a critical component of care delivery, demonstrating the need to balance in-person and virtual care in the health care system;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, in 2021, 91 percent of Medicare beneficiaries were satisfied with their telehealth experiences;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas legislative efforts to increase telehealth access have received bipartisan support in the Senate and the House of Representatives;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the United States has the opportunity to help improve broader access to health services for all individuals, including members of rural and underserved communities; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas <quote>Telehealth Awareness Week</quote> unites the efforts of patients, caregivers, health care providers, policymakers, and other stakeholders to advance the role of telehealth in health care: Now, therefore, be it </text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate— </text><paragraph id="id19A375C13D8F4B15B457F01A53D281F4"><enum>(1)</enum><text>supports the designation of the week of September 18 through September 24, 2022, as <quote>Telehealth Awareness Week</quote>;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idD186E2A3802C445B882AB4AC35CBB6E6"><enum>(2)</enum><text>recognizes the impact of telehealth in delivering health care services for patients across the United States; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idA4C3AAB7A6374D30A6048E241715C1AB"><enum>(3)</enum><text>urges that steps should be taken—</text><subparagraph id="id81d9a1a0e056464195a19722f4b8c882"><enum>(A)</enum><text>to raise awareness about the benefits of expanding telehealth;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id253b09f2467b4dbab80ac1c4a48431a6"><enum>(B)</enum><text>to highlight resources for health care providers and patients regarding telehealth;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id51fc34511a31473e99a7aca93d7d13eb"><enum>(C)</enum><text>to collect and analyze data on the impacts of telehealth; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idcdae6af214de403c8ab7dae5a64bf47f"><enum>(D)</enum><text>to promote continued access to telehealth for all communities and across settings beyond the COVID–19 pandemic. </text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
