RES. 746</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date>August 4, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S318">Mr. Wicker</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S395">Mrs. Hyde-Smith</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S373">Mr. Cassidy</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S412">Mr. Tuberville</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S389">Mr. Kennedy</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S374">Mr. Cotton</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S287">Mr. Cornyn</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S343">Mr. Boozman</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S184">Mr. Shelby</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S384">Mr. Tillis</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S415">Mr. Warnock</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S355">Mr. Cruz</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was considered and agreed to</action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Designating August 2022 as <quote>National Catfish Month</quote>.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas the Catfish Institute recognizes August to be National Catfish Month;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the States of Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas recognize August to be National Catfish Month;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the States of Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Tennessee embody the Channel Catfish as their State Fish;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the farm-raised catfish industry in the United States employs nearly 10,000 people and contributes more than $4,000,000,000 to the economy of the United States;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the United States has 67,640 surface water acres used for catfish production in 2022, and catfish growers in the United States had $421,161,000 in sales during 2021;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the average catfish farmer produces 5,000 pounds of catfish per acre;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas 99 percent of all United States farm-raised catfish are grown in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, and Texas;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas catfish is the largest farm-raised seafood product, by weight, in the United States, representing more than 50 percent of the United States aquaculture industry;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas United States farm-raised catfish are consistently high quality and, unlike ocean-caught fish, are available all year long;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas United States farm-raised catfish are a sustainable and environmentally friendly seafood product;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas catfish is a lean fish and an excellent source of protein; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas catfish is a versatile fish in cuisine of the United States, with a myriad of regional and national recipes to be enjoyed by all people of the United States: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" id="S1"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="id3ef75b28ac25474e90b6cd511dafaf08"><enum>(1)</enum><text>designates August 2022 as <quote>National Catfish Month</quote>;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id1074e4ea3d324d82a640dabb6a24e9d1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>recognizes the contributions of all workers, past and present, that produce, process, and provide catfish for the people of the United States; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id2caf4ca20ecd4530816c3b9c3f1311bb"><enum>(3)</enum><text>recognizes that purchasing United States farm-raised catfish supports farmers, jobs, and the economy of the United States. </text></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
