RES. 719</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20220726">July 26, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S311">Ms. Klobuchar</sponsor> (for herself and <cosponsor name-id="S349">Mr. Portman</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSHR00">Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Expressing support for the designation of July 2022 as <quote>Disability Pride Month</quote>.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 61,000,000 adults in the United States have disabilities;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the United States Census Bureau reports that more than 3,000,000 children in the United States have disabilities;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/12101">42 U.S.C. 12101 et seq.</external-xref>) was signed into law on July 26, 1990;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas individuals with a disability remain at an increased risk of experiencing discrimination, isolation, and inequities;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas individuals with disabilities are vital and make meaningful contributions to the arts, science, health care, technology, sports, education, law, and many more sectors; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas <quote>Disability Pride Month</quote> is celebrated in July by people across the United States: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body style="traditional" id="HCA498B2BEC854C77AA7BA17075568307"><section display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" id="H1E93AF6643034F38A2A55E9E69081CF6"><enum/><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="H6D9D1C7BFA22429ABBB05321036FF225"><enum>(1)</enum><text>expresses support for the designation of July 2022 as <quote>Disability Pride Month</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H083C21179E10497ABA80762ABD1333B3"><enum>(2)</enum><text>calls on the people of the United States, interest groups, and affected people to—</text><subparagraph id="H7EA54B07BE3C4057B534A14D49E02368"><enum>(A)</enum><text>observe <quote>Disability Pride Month</quote> with appropriate celebrations and activities; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H80EB36A56D844158AD400849FB6B5DE9"><enum>(B)</enum><text>take an active role in preventing the exclusion of, and discrimination against, individuals with disabilities.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
