RES. 597</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20220427">April 27, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S306">Mr. Menendez</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S413">Mr. Padilla</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S359">Mr. Heinrich</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S253">Mr. Durbin</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S409">Mr. Luján</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S385">Ms. Cortez Masto</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S402">Ms. Rosen</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S370">Mr. Booker</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S221">Mrs. Feinstein</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S390">Mr. Van Hollen</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S287">Mr. Cornyn</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was considered and agreed to</action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Recognizing the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities National Internship Program on the 30th anniversary of the program and celebrating its legacy of increasing diversity in the Federal Government and the private sector.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities National Internship Program (referred to in this preamble as <quote>HNIP</quote>);</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the HNIP began with 24 interns in the summer of 1992 and has grown to a year-round internship program for Hispanic and underrepresented students, placing over 500 interns every year in multiple Federal agencies;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, in 2020, the Hispanic population accounted for 62,100,000, or 18.7 percent, of the total United States population;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, according to the Annual Report to the President on Hispanic Employment in the Federal Government for Fiscal Year 2018 by the Office of Personnel Management, only 9.1 percent of Federal employees were Hispanic and only 3.3 percent were in Senior Executive Service positions;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the HNIP has been cited in the Hispanic Nine Point Plan by the Office of Personnel Management as a resource to increase the recruitment of Hispanic interns in the Federal Government; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the HNIP has produced over 14,000 alumni who are now in the Federal Government, State or local government, and private industry: Now, therefore, be it </text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="idf61b8f862c1b42ebbd664388c63c9424"><enum>(1)</enum><text>recognizes the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities National Internship Program (referred to in this resolving clause as <quote>HNIP</quote>) for 30 years of providing internship opportunities to Hispanic and underrepresented students attending Hispanic-serving institutions and other institutions of higher education;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id63e041775e044e31824419129a3f9da9"><enum>(2)</enum><text>congratulates all HNIP alumni who continue to make a difference in the communities of the United States; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id3d81bd00d1dd44ad87ad28a2899a959a"><enum>(3)</enum><text>encourages the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities to continue to support and inspire future Hispanic and underrepresented leaders. </text></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
