RES. 595</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20220426">April 26, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S338">Mr. Manchin</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S318">Mr. Wicker</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S309">Mr. Casey</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S372">Mrs. Capito</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S359">Mr. Heinrich</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S153">Mr. Grassley</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was considered and agreed to</action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Designating the week of April 18 through April 24, 2022, as <quote>National Osteopathic Medicine Week</quote>.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas there are more than 134,000 osteopathic physicians and 33,800 osteopathic medical students in the United States;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas osteopathic physicians and medical students train at high-caliber schools of osteopathic medicine across the United States, including in rural communities;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas osteopathic physicians have made significant contributions to the United States healthcare system since the founding of the field of osteopathic medicine;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas osteopathic medicine emphasizes a patient-centered approach to healthcare, and osteopathic physicians play an important role in the United States healthcare system; </text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas osteopathic physicians have been critical in the fight against the coronavirus 2019 pandemic and have worked on the front lines treating patients;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas osteopathic physicians practice in all specialty areas and practice settings of medicine;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas osteopathic physicians and medical students in the United States are dedicated to improving the health of their communities through efforts to increase education and awareness and by delivering high-quality health services; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas osteopathic physicians currently practice in every State: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="id0c26d1b0bf7e4b5d808155433d1ef0f6"><enum>(1)</enum><text>designates the week of April 18 through April 24, 2022, as <quote>National Osteopathic Medicine Week</quote>;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idcbcfbfaf088b42d18b34b9d48e3c4896"><enum>(2)</enum><text>recognizes the contributions of osteopathic physicians to the United States healthcare system; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idb42d37ff0dcb4ca1ad5d669fec8bd05d"><enum>(3)</enum><text>celebrates the role that schools of osteopathic medicine play in training the next generation of osteopathic physicians. </text></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
