RES. 584</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20220407">April 7, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S288">Ms. Murkowski</sponsor> (for herself and <cosponsor name-id="S383">Mr. Sullivan</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Congratulating Miss Emma Broyles of Alaska for being crowned Miss America 2022.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas Emma Broyles was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, and graduated from Service High School in 2019;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Miss Broyles, an honors student and a biomedical sciences major at Arizona State University, plans to attend medical school and become a dermatologist;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Miss Broyles, who has excelled at a wide range of musical activities from an early age, is pursuing a minor in voice performance;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Miss Broyles applied her exceptional talents in the Miss Alaska 2021 competition;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Miss Broyles was crowned Miss Alaska on June 17, 2021;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Miss Broyles, as Miss Alaska, participated in the 100th Anniversary Miss America Competition (referred to in this preamble as the <quote>Competition</quote>) alongside 50 outstanding young women from across the country;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Miss Broyles was inspired by her older brother to choose <quote>Building Community through the Special Olympics</quote> as the theme of her social impact initiative;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, during the talent segment of the Competition, Miss Broyles sang <quote>Let Me Be Your Star</quote> from the television show <quote>Smash</quote>;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, throughout the Competition, Miss Broyles spoke openly and courageously about her struggles with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and dermatillomania;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Miss Broyles was crowned Miss America 2022 on December 16, 2021;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Miss Broyles is the first Alaskan to be crowned Miss America in the 100-year history of the Competition;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Miss Broyles is the first Korean-American to be crowned Miss America; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Alaskans take great pride in Miss Broyles’ victory: Now, therefore, be it </text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="ida8901a2244574a5fb58fae5e09387d31"><enum>(1)</enum><text>congratulates Miss Emma Broyles of Alaska for being crowned Miss America 2022;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id7132a06d70e643f2bfc2fd1b887c8d2e"><enum>(2)</enum><text>celebrates historic achievement of Miss Broyles as the first Alaskan and first Korean-American to be crowned Miss America; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id2e2672d3c83043f093ee980b321f882e"><enum>(3)</enum><text>commends Miss Broyles for inspiring young people and serving as a positive role model for millions of individuals in the United States. </text></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
