which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSCM00">Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Honoring Thomas Edward Patrick Brady, Jr., the 7-time Super Bowl champion who played for the New England Patriots for 20 incredible seasons, and briefly the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for 2 seasons, for a combined 22 seasons in the National Football League.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas Tom Brady, commonly known as <quote>TB12</quote> or <quote>the GOAT</quote>, was born in San Mateo, California, on August 3, 1977;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, after graduating from Junipero Serra High School, Tom Brady matriculated at the University of Michigan, where he led the Wolverines football team to wins in the Citrus and Orange Bowls;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Tom Brady was drafted in the sixth round of the 2000 National Football League (referred to in this preamble as the <quote>NFL</quote>) Draft with the 199th pick by the New England Patriots, a selection that many football analysts now regard as the best draft pick of all time;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Tom Brady was named the starting quarterback of the New England Patriots during the 2001 season and subsequently never had a losing season as a starting quarterback during his time in the NFL;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Tom Brady was instrumental in creating iconic moments in New England sports history, including—</text><paragraph id="idc62d2b1ee30c4c8bbb0b12ae78d196bb"><enum>(1)</enum><text>on January 19, 2002, leading the Patriots to a come-from-behind win in the American Football Conference Divisional playoffs against the Oakland Raiders during a blizzard in the last game ever played at Foxboro Stadium;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idd62a993f0f9f4518ad97a1c6220f5669"><enum>(2)</enum><text>on February 2, 2002, leading the New England Patriots to the franchise’s first Super Bowl victory against the heavily favored St. Louis Rams;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id30643c94476e430cbd437129ed6c6e6d"><enum>(3)</enum><text>during the 2007 season, leading the New England Patriots with a record setting passing touchdown performance to a perfect 16–0 regular season; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id94c98c288a36456f962497e24477d35e"><enum>(4)</enum><text>on February 5, 2017, overcoming a 28–3 deficit against the Atlanta Falcons to win Super Bowl LI;</text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Tom Brady has won 7 Super Bowls, including 6 with the New England Patriots, and was a key member during the franchise’s dynasty era, which spanned 2 decades;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Tom Brady has been—</text><paragraph id="id3CAB973F773F46BF9F2F31FA0912DE4F"><enum>(1)</enum><text>selected 3 times as the NFL’s Most Valuable Player;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idC8BDBDD128D24ECC931655961AD29A9B"><enum>(2)</enum><text>selected 5 times as the Most Valuable Player of the Super Bowl;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id672C4F7F08B0461C82507B2F7D4FEE44"><enum>(3)</enum><text>selected 6 times as an All-Pro player;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id360FF9A2F6B942A2ABF1C21AC07B9CCB"><enum>(4)</enum><text>selected to 15 Pro Bowls; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id77C0CF01BD1C488181375035185FF471"><enum>(5)</enum><text>a consistent NFL leader in passing touchdowns, passing yards, passer rating, and completion percentage;</text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Tom Brady holds numerous NFL records, including—</text><paragraph id="id5E36085439B9408DB17A20E7BBC44C1A"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the most Super Bowl wins with 7;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idB14AF15A674B4165887875FCA6CD4C5F"><enum>(2)</enum><text>the most Super Bowl appearances with 10;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idE953C3EBECAA42F6AB3AF8C3D506C383"><enum>(3)</enum><text>the most career wins with 243;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id40F5FD9BCDE64ED6933DF71D290D886F"><enum>(4)</enum><text>the most career passing completions with 7,263;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id5289A83B67C84045930B05591BE20F5A"><enum>(5)</enum><text>the most career passing touchdowns with 624; and </text></paragraph><paragraph id="idAC319E1EB5564714B501CCDF3AEDBEAA"><enum>(6)</enum><text>the most career passing yards with 84,520;</text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Tom Brady taught all of New England that the most important championship ring was <quote>the next one</quote>;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Tom Brady earned the love and admiration of New England sports fans everywhere and buoyed the spirits of children through his work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Best Buddies;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Tom Brady brought incredible joy to New England and all of Patriots Nation, who loved watching him play; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Tom Brady played his final NFL game on January 23, 2022: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="id0D6F86FA6C0B4522AFE2A8931DF6F961"><enum>(1)</enum><text>honors the legendary career of Thomas Edward Patrick Brady, Jr., whose leadership, tenacity, and hard work defined a generation for Patriots Nation and whose legacy will continue to live on for years to come; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id67667b9704c6458ebfd45b87bc4ecc91" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(2)</enum><text>wishes Tom Brady a fulfilling post-professional football career as he bids farewell to the gridiron. </text></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
