RES. 504</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date>February 3, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S347">Mr. Moran</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S411">Mr. Marshall</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was considered and agreed to</action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Commending and congratulating the Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens men's basketball team on winning the 2021 National Junior College Athletic Association Division I men's basketball championship.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas, on Saturday, April 24, 2021, the Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens men's basketball team (referred to in this preamble as the <quote>Red Ravens</quote>) defeated the Cowley County Community College Tigers by a score of 108 to 99 in the 2021 National Junior College Athletic Association (referred to in this preamble as the <quote>NJCAA</quote>) Division I men's basketball championship game;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the 2021 national championship is the first for the Red Ravens since 1962;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, in addition to winning the national championship, the Red Ravens won a share of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference East title;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, in the championship game, freshman center Blaise Keita had a career-high 27 points on 13–16 shooting;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas guard Tylor Perry—</text><paragraph id="id6EBEE301EB9449F686BF560EFCFB09E5"><enum>(1)</enum><text>had 18 points in the championship game; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idF1EC11B702094EA28A073AC2A99A8057"><enum>(2)</enum><text>was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2021 NJCAA Division I men's basketball championship tournament;</text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Love Bettis, Blaise Keita, and Tylor Perry were named to the All-Tournament team; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas head coach Jay Herkelman was named the 2021 NJCAA Division I men's basketball coach of the year: Now, therefore, be it </text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="id7384fd22736e406f91f03bf811664a40"><enum>(1)</enum><text>commends the Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens men's basketball team on winning the 2021 National Junior College Athletic Association Division I men's basketball championship;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id3161a87e57c7453684e9650768fe43a6"><enum>(2)</enum><text>recognizes the players, coaches, and staff of the Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens men's basketball team; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id20d156f11d78419bb3ba1054023b6f4d"><enum>(3)</enum><text>respectfully requests that the Secretary of the Senate transmit an enrolled copy of this resolution to—</text><subparagraph id="id8e8a130c976f489f8ad25a49c5487039"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the President of Coffeyville Community College, Dr. Marlon Thornburg;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="ide3fc476e465047978371e3c4df920ae3"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the Athletic Director of Coffeyville Community College, Jeff Leiker; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id9ef0ea5634d8495c82ed92f6b00c51be"><enum>(C)</enum><text>the head coach of the Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens men's basketball team, Jay Herkelman.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
