Res. 487</legis-num><current-chamber>In the Senate of the United States,</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20220120">January 20, 2022.</action-date></action><legis-type display="no">RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="no">Congratulating the University of Wisconsin Badgers on winning the 2021 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship.</official-title></form><preamble commented="no"><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas, on December 18, 2021, the University of Wisconsin Badgers won the 2021 National Collegiate Athletic Association (referred to in this preamble as the <quote>NCAA</quote>) Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship and finished the season with an impressive record of 31 wins and 3 losses;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas the University of Wisconsin women’s volleyball team defeated the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers in a thrilling 5-set match to win the program’s first ever national championship;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas the following players should be congratulated for their hard work and dedication in representing the University of Wisconsin with dignity: Izzy Ashburn, Lauren Barnes, Joslyn Boyer, Giorgia Civita, Jade Demps, Liz Gregorski, MJ Hammill, Danielle Hart, Sydney Hilley, Lauren Jardine, Grace Loberg, Anna MacDonald, Julia Orzol, Sydney Reed, Dana Rettke, Devyn Robinson, Anna Smrek, and Julia Wohlert;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas the Badgers were led by an outstanding coaching and support staff, including Kelly Sheffield, Brittany Dildine, Gary White, Jessica Williams, Annemarie Hickey, Mackenzie Long, Kristen Walker, Kevin Schultz, Katie Smith, Diane Nordstrom, and Bianca Miceli;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas the championship point was scored by senior middle blocker Dana Rettke, the 2021 National Player of the Year and the only 5-time American Volleyball Coaches Association (referred to in this preamble as the <quote>AVCA</quote>)<italic></italic> First-Team All-American in NCAA Volleyball history;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas freshman opposite hitter Anna Smrek was named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA National Championship, while Dana Rettke and Sydney Hilley were also named to the NCAA National Championship All-Tournament Team;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas senior setter Sydney Hilley was also selected as the 2021 Senior CLASS Award recipient as the most outstanding senior student-athlete in Division I women’s volleyball;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas Assistant Coach Brittany Dildine was named the AVCA Division I National Assistant Coach of the Year;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas the University of Wisconsin women’s volleyball team—</text><paragraph id="idbcb8a5b183a04004ba4afc33026038ee" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">captured the 2021 Big Ten conference championship for the third consecutive season;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id43f62081e24e412c821316d9d8ba7753" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">featured 3 players who earned AVCA All-American honors at the end of the season, Dana Rettke, Sydney Hilley, and Lauren Barnes; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idc0ff0715930b4918b75b28d05c99a491" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">has had a history of players, past and present, who also represent the University of Wisconsin on the international stage;</text></paragraph></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas the players and staff persevered through the challenges presented by the COVID–19 pandemic; and</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas the Badger women’s volleyball team has brought great pride and honor to the University of Wisconsin and its alumni, loyal fans, and the State of Wisconsin: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body style="OLC" display-resolving-clause="yes-display-resolving-clause"><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="id4927c39d65664d4d9ce8fe036d546140" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">congratulates the University of Wisconsin Badgers on winning the 2021 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idc7737d3266b74c359d96535c67a79b68" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">recognizes the achievements of the players, coaches, and staff who contributed to this championship season; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id448699fe431145c0bde28d618f63bbf2" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">respectfully requests that the Secretary of the Senate transmit an enrolled copy of this resolution to—</text><subparagraph id="id8118bb57e92c4656ac2d33042867e9b5" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin, Rebecca Blank;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id3c3f2311461642e284b3457acfecc534" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the Athletic Director of the University of Wisconsin, Chris McIntosh;
