RES. 448</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20211116">November 16, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S380">Mr. Peters</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S349">Mr. Portman</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Designating November 19, 2021, as <quote>TSA Appreciation Day</quote>.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas November 19, 2021, marks the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Aviation and Transportation Security Act (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/107/71">Public Law 107–71</external-xref>; 115 Stat. 597) by President George W. Bush, creating the Transportation Security Administration (commonly known as the <quote>TSA</quote>); </text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the TSA was established with the mission to prevent similar attacks and restore confidence in air travel; </text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, for 20 years, employees and officers of the TSA have been on the front lines ensuring safety in the skies and for the traveling public; </text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, during the COVID–19 pandemic, the TSA quickly adjusted its security operations in order to meet current and future security needs of transportation systems in the United States; </text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, throughout the COVID–19 pandemic, the TSA has remained on the front lines at airports in the United States; </text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas more than 10,000 employees of the TSA have tested positive for COVID–19, and more than 30 employees of the TSA have lost their lives to COVID–19; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the people of the United States will continue to be able to rely upon the vigilance of the TSA in the face of future unknown threats: Now, therefore, be it </text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="id85E113E036EC46F2BABE0FBE70AD46AF"><enum>(1)</enum><text>designates November 19, 2021, as <quote>TSA Appreciation Day</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id7A472644F79243FEAACB9912CA914ED3"><enum>(2)</enum><text>recognizes— </text><subparagraph id="id2810AF2E6BDF479486BE8B339BC646C9"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the service and sacrifices made by employees and officers of the Transportation Security Administration; and </text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id87A4A4F68B7A4DEDA1FF698B2F0E8CFE"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the role such employees and officers play in keeping the United States secure.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
