RES. 335</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date>August 3, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S363">Mr. King</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S252">Ms. Collins</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S364">Mr. Murphy</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S341">Mr. Blumenthal</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S324">Mrs. Shaheen</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S316">Mr. Whitehouse</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S369">Mr. Markey</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S259">Mr. Reed</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S388">Ms. Hassan</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S366">Ms. Warren</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was considered and agreed to</action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Designating September 25, 2021, as <quote>National Lobster Day</quote>.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas lobstering has served as an economic engine and family tradition in the United States for centuries;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas thousands of families in the United States make their livelihoods from catching, processing, or serving lobsters;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the lobster industry employs people of all ages year-round, and many harvesters begin fishing as children and stay in the industry for their entire working lives;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas historical lore notes that lobster likely joined turkey on the table at the very first Thanksgiving feast in 1621, and lobster continues to be a mainstay during many other holiday traditions;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas responsible resource management practices beginning in the 1600s have created one of the most sustainable fisheries in the world;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, throughout history, Presidents of the United States have served lobster at their inaugural celebrations and state dinners with international leaders;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas lobster is a versatile source of lean protein that is low in saturated fat and high in vitamin B12;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas lobster is enjoyed across meals and in recent years has become a popular breakfast offering;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas lobster is continually incorporated into trending recipes such as pho, gnocchi, doughnuts, cocktails, and ice cream;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the peak of the lobstering season in the United States occurs in late summer;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas harvesters, dealers, processors, and cooks adapted and innovated during the COVID-19 pandemic to help people enjoy their favorite lobster dishes and discover new ones in the comfort of their homes;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the Unicode Consortium added a lobster to its emoji set in 2018 in recognition of the popularity of the species around the world;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas lobsters have inspired artists in the United States and throughout the world for hundreds of years;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas lobsters have been, and continue to be, used as mascots for sports teams;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas lobster inspires innovation of all kinds beyond the plate, including skincare and fertilizers;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas countless people in the United States enjoy lobster rolls to celebrate summer, from beaches to backyards and from fine-dining restaurants to lobster shacks; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas lobster is a staple on the menus of beloved restaurants across the United States and in kitchens across the United States as well, bringing families and friends together: Now, therefore, be it </text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="id651e84f0f0a94e5081790fda254165ce"><enum>(1)</enum><text>designates September 25, 2021, as <quote>National Lobster Day</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id09e15704cd3d4f089d61db71de7e6a67"><enum>(2)</enum><text>encourages the people of the United States to observe the day with appropriate ceremonies and activities. </text></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
